About The Event
Research tells us that Black men are far more likely than others to be diagnosed with severe mental health problems and are also far more likely to be sectioned under the Mental Health Act. However, up until 11 years old, Black boys don't have poorer mental health than others of their age (NHS Digital, 2021).
Following from out monthly Black men's focus group, we have created this space to explore Masculinity, Identity & Mental Health for Black men in a purposeful way.
For this session we are supporting our community of Black men through a journey of self-discovery and to explore psychology-based life skills to help Black Men thrive.
We will explore:
· What does masculinity mean for Black men?
· How is identity formed?
· What are the impacts of this on mental health?
You will gain:
· Practical strategies to build esteem
· Tools to unlearn and challenge internalised negative beliefs
· Tools to navigate life whilst battling societal pressures
This session will be led by Ontonio Dawson, Psychological Therapist & Founder of 'Speak Black Man' and
Vanessa Boachie, Psychological Therapist & Founder of Inside Out Well-being
